Why did Jane Lynch leave ‘Party Down’ in Season 2? ‘Party Down’ is in its third season on Starz, ten years later, but Jane Lynch took a hiatus.
Spoiler alert: This article incorporates *minor* spoilers for Season 3, Episode 1 of Party Down.
Now that Party Down is back on Starz — best ten years after its ultimate season ended — we’re digging back into the sitcom’s original lore. Party Down used to be first launched in March 2009, and whilst one of the cast on the time weren’t yet family names, virtually every single actor in the series has gone on to grow to be a major celebrity, including Jane Lynch.
The collection follows a gaggle of mostly-wannabe actors as they work at a catering corporate known as “Party Down.” While each and every of them has their very own unique character, Jane’s persona, Constance Carmell, is described via Starz as “the ditzy, new-age wannabe actress.” In fact, in Season 3, she comes back as a wealthy benefactor and art patron, which is someway very becoming.
But she at the start left the sequence in Season 2. So why did she leave?

Jane Lynch originally left ‘Party Down’ in Season 2 due to a scheduling conflict.
While Jane is well one of the recognizable celebrities lately, we have to credit score a lot of that back to Glee. So it’s no marvel that the reason Jane left Party Down used to be because she used to be introduced the role of Sue Sylvester, the cheerleading head coach and Glee club bully.
Of route, Sue’s journey takes a big turn in Glee, and all the way through it all, Jane’s career skyrocketed. That plus the truth that Party Down was canceled after Season 2 prove that she made a excellent decision to depart the show when she did. After Party Down, Jane went on to characteristic in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Wreck-It Ralph, and maximum lately, Velma.
(L-R): Martin Starr, Megan Mullally, Ryan Hansen, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, and Adam Scott in 'Party Down'
But we can’t blame Jane for Party Down’s initial cancellation. In truth, her exit supposed the introductions of Megan Mullally and Jennifer Coolidge in Season 2, both of whom are absolute comedic legends. Plus, nearly every solid member of the original series was once on the up and up. Adam Scott began Parks and Rec in 2011, Ken Marino began picking up extra and extra film roles, and Lizzy Caplan went on to star in Masters of Sex in 2013.
Jane had to depart ‘Party Down’ in Season 2, but now she’s back for Season 3.
Back in 2010, Jane advised the New York Post (by means of DigitalSpy) that she was “bummed” to go away Party Down. “That is one of those shows that despite the fact that it looked like they had been dropping cast members, you might want to just stay bringing other people on," she said. "There are so many comedian actors that you could not know of who are extraordinarily gifted and would be absolute best for this."

And now, Jane is thrilled to reprise her role! While she did appear in the Season 2 finale for her character’s wedding, she’s back as a benefactor for the new era of Party Down. Thanks to streaming services (mainly Hulu) and its strong cult following, many of us got the Party Down revival we’ve been hoping for.
“People would find the show and when they did, they would watch the episodes over and over again which made it a cult hit,” Jane told Starz. “I would be walking back from the bathroom on a plane and see people watching it, which was such a delight!”

Because of Constance’s eccentricity, we consider that taking part in her is immensely fun for Jane. “What I love about Party Down is that the idea is like sitcoms of outdated—it's secondary to the relationships of the characters,” she defined.
“I had no concept that we would be doing this once more 10 years later, however it was once my fondest hope. I have said in many interviews—and you can reality check me in this—that Party Down was once essentially the most fun job I've ever had. I like playing Constance and season 3 brings so many more layers to this already colourful persona.”
Well, we’re all satisfied that Jane is back on the show, and her new iteration of Constance ten years later is by some means much more adorable than the original.
New episodes of Party Down are released on Starz each Friday.
