Why was Ronnie Ortiz-Magro arrested?

On April 22, 2021, the Jersey Shore star was arrested in Los Angeles "on suspicion of intimate spouse violence with injuries and with priors," a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department previously told People. Ronnie was taken to jail and later released on a $100,000 bail.

Ronnie's girlfriend Saffire Matos addressed the news on Instagram (via Page Six), writing, "Ronnie and I are superb. There is so much of misleading information floating around in the market."

She continued, "With any one who reached out with concern I respect it with all my middle, however the whole thing that is being portrayed out there are not details."

Ronnie faced a misdemeanor charge instead of a felony after the case was handed down from the District Attorney's Office to the City Attorney's Office.

This is not the first time the Jersey Shore alum has been in trouble with the law. In 2020, Ronnie was placed on probation as part of a plea deal from a domestic violence incident involving ex-girlfriend Jenn Harley.

Following his legal issues, Ronnie announced on his Instagram stories (per Page Six) that he would be stepping back from filming Jersey Shore.

"After chatting with the crew at MTV, we have mutually agreed that I will step clear of the show while I seek medical treatment for mental health problems that I've neglected too lengthy," he shared. He went on to say that his No. 1 priority was to be the best father for his daughter. Ronnie only appeared in a few episodes of Season 4, and fans wonder if he will appear in Season 5 at all. This season, viewers will finally get to see Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his wife Lauren's son, Romeo Reign, in addition to Deena Cortese's second baby, Camron Theo. But as audiences watch the new season on MTV, one roommate they might not see is Ronnie. He was not included in any of the promotional photos and didn't appear in the trailer for Season 5.

In August 2021, Ronnie told TMZ that he was four months sober and planning to return to Jersey Shore: Family Vacation by the end of Season 5. So, we definitely know that he did not film with the rest of his roommates for the first half of the new season. That said, he told the media outlet that his journey on the show was “definitely not over” and added that he plans to return by the end of the season.
