Severide Is Hitting the Road Again After Just Returning to 'Chicago Fire'

It's never a dull moment at Firehouse 51 on Chicago Fire. This department of the Chicago procedural drama franchise follows the firefighters of the Chicago Fire Department as they maintain the drama of their non-public lives all whilst placing themselves on the line in placing out unhealthy fires in the city. The show tends to concentrate on all aspects of the fictitious firehouse, including rescue squads and ambulance reaction groups. But as with any crew like this, members appear to come and cross.

That even contains prominent figures like Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). Despite being the lieutenant of Firehouse 51, he has been pulled clear of his place on a large number of occasions. His private profession targets have taken him out of Chicago or even put his relationships in jeopardy, including his marriage. He returns in Season 12 for a brief second, but is he already gearing as much as leave again? Here's what we learn about Severide's standing at Firehouse 51.

Severide's presence was once rather spotty during Season 11. The longtime lieutenant was taken out of Chicago to finish an arson investigation program. In the process, he left his many colleagues within the dust, together with his spouse and firefighter Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). After finishing the program, he remained absent for a lot of Season 11. He did not even make an appearance in the season finale.

He finally returned initially of Season 12, which premiered on Jan. 17, 2024. When he does come again, Severide's colleagues are all but far-off toward him. And understandably, his marriage to Stella is on the rocks. She even thinks that his obsession with arson investigation is making him lose contact with those he loves.

While Severide tries to get again on Firehouse 51's just right facet, he might be leaving again.

In Season 12, Episode 3, "Trapped," Severide is asked to take on an arson investigation in Arizona. Caught between answering his calling as an arson investigator and staying true to his established relationships, Stella tentatively offers Severide her blessing to take the case on. In flip, he ensures that he's going to come again to her once the case is settled. However, only time will tell if he's going to stay true to his word. Regardless, Severide remains on skinny ice together with his Chicago-based colleagues for Season 12.

Severide's infrequent appearances in recent times can also be attributed to actor Taylor Kinney's IRL standing. In January 2023, it was once reported that Taylor would take a leave of absence from the show to maintain an undisclosed "personal matter" at the time. As of this writing, no rationalization has been given for his extended absence. He used to be closely rumored to be returning to the series full-time for Season 12, however his de facto go back continues to be seen.
