Warning: this article accommodates spoilers for Season 1 and a pair of of Outer Banks.

If you're one of the hundreds of thousands of Netflix subscribers who raced through season 2 of Outer Banks in a day or two, then you recognize about that wild twist on the end. It seems, John B's dad, Big John, is in fact alive (insert shocked Pikachu meme). In the overall Season 2 scene, Carla Limbrey, the wealthy socialite on the hunt for the cross of Santo Domingo, visits an overly a lot alive Big John.

According to an 'Outer Banks' fan principle, John B's dad is still dead.

In the scene, Carla visits Big John at anyone's home in Barbados. The proprietor of the home tells her Big John is not doing smartly. Carla then is going to Big John out on a porch. He says he will lend a hand her to find what she desires if she helps John B. At face value, some fans would possibly take this to imply Big John is alive and he desires Carla to lend a hand John B and his buddies (who wash up on a wasteland island within the Season 2 finale).

But in a concept posted on Reddit, one fan wrote that all of the scene between Carla and Big John could be a flashback. It might be a scene from prior to the events of Season 2, again when Big John used to be published to have died after he was once thrown off a boat by way of Ward.

According to the speculation, Big John may inform Carla to help John B as a result of this takes position at a time when John B is still looking to transparent his name for murder.

At the beginning of Season 2, John B is wanted for murder. Carla in the end tracks down Pope and offers to offer him proof to exonerate John B in trade for details about the cross of Santo Domingo. If this idea is proper, then Big John's assembly with Carla could have took place some time prior to Season 2 began.

If the theory is accurate, Big John is dead — either after spending months on an island where Ward deserted him or after slightly putting on in Barbados. And the scene at the finish of Season 2 is a purple herring intended to clutter with viewers and display the strong connection between Carla and Big John.

It's an extended shot needless to say. But so is the concept that a personality believed to be dead just came back to existence.

Could John B's dad be alive in Season 3?

Elizabeth Mitchell, who performs Carla on Outer Banks, spoke to HollywoodLife about that massive Season 2 cliffhanger. While she did not verify or deny her personality's relationship with Big John, she did seem to skirt around questions on Big John.

When requested if Big John can believe Carla, Elizabeth stated, "I don't think anyone should trust Carla."

Ok so if John b’s dad isn’t in fact dead, then who’s body did they in finding??? #OBX2

Then, when there used to be a query about Big John being a risk, she stated, "That's a great question. Is he someone that she can trust? Is he someone that is a threat? I think those are very much, forgive me, I know that it's so hard for actors to be so cagey, but I do feel that that is up in the air."

Her imprecise answers no doubt lend one thing to this theory about John B's dad still being dead.
